About Ted
A Treasurer for Every Delaware Family
A life shaped by service and responsibility
Ted’s belief in service started early. He grew up listening to stories from his grandfather, a Navy frogman in World War II. Those stories weren’t about glory … but about our shared responsibility to our country and our community.
After graduating from Duke University, Ted joined the military and served as a Marine combat helicopter pilot. During that military service, Ted lost several close friends – men and women he admired and respected deeply. From that experience, he developed a strong sense of responsibility to use each moment we’re given to serve others, to work hard to increase opportunities for the next generation, and to always do the “right thing, not the comfortable thing.”
That sense of duty still guides him today.
A steady, practical approach to public service
Ted Lauzen is a small business owner, an investment manager, an engaged veteran, a loving husband, and a father of four young kids. He believes that public service – especially in tough times – can make a lasting and positive impact for folks across the state.
Ted’s running because Delaware families are feeling the squeeze – from higher costs, tighter budgets, and growing uncertainty. This is a “moment that matters” for our shared future – more than ever, we need steady, experienced financial leadership that’s focused on long-term stability and success.
Experience grounded in finance
After his military service, Ted built a career in finance with one simple goal: help people make impactful decisions with their hard-earned savings and plan for their future.
He studied finance at Wharton, built an investment management firm, and spent years working one-on-one with families, retirees, and small business owners in New Castle, Kent, and Sussex counties.
Across kitchen tables, he’s seen how thoughtful financial management strengthens a family’s future, avoids common, detrimental mistakes, and supports community efforts. Those lessons of working as an experienced investment manager shapes how he sees the Treasurer’s job – a careful, hands-on stewardship of Delaware’s financial future. Â
Focused on the work that matters
The State Treasurer is effectively the investment manager for Delaware. The office invests retirement funds for public employees, leads key financial programs (like the state’s 529), and works closely with state boards to support Delaware’s long-term financial future.
The State Treasurer focuses on the protection and stewardship of the savings and the futures of our neighbors.
Ted brings a proven, positive, and disciplined approach to solving tough problems. He consistently demonstrates an enthusiasm to work hard for the best interests of our state. Ted’s the experienced financial leader we need to navigate these “moments that matter” for our future.
Ted's promise to Delaware
Financial security for Delaware families
Ted believes state government should help families keep more of what they earn and feel confident about their financial future. As Treasurer, he will fight for practical financial programs that actually help people pay their bills, reduce debt, build savings, and invest for the long term. Not headline driven initiatives, but tools that work in real life for working families, retirees, and small business owners.
Responsible stewardship of Delaware’s money
Delaware’s finances belong to its people, not Wall Street. Ted will fight to protect the state’s AAA credit rating, reduce unnecessary risk in the state’s investment portfolio, and cut excessive fees paid to outside managers. He will bring a disciplined, math based approach to managing billions of taxpayer dollars so Delaware stays strong through economic uncertainty.
A Treasurer who actively serves the public
Ted will fight to transform the Treasurer’s office from a passive institution into an engaged advocate for Delawareans. That means coordinating investments and grants, supporting job creation and wage growth, expanding access to education and savings tools like the 529 plan, and being a visible, accountable partner to the Governor, the Legislature, and the people of Delaware.
Transparency and accountability in state finance
Ted believes Delawareans deserve to understand how their money is managed and why financial decisions are made. As Treasurer, he will fight for clear reporting, open communication, and plain language explanations of state investments, programs, and outcomes so residents, lawmakers, and communities can trust the process and hold government accountable.
